This is a drawing I did for my friend Lori’s birthday last fall.  This is just a straight scan with a little contrast adjustment but I think this one is swirly enough to deal with some photoshop filters and hue changes and such. So I’m going to experiment on this drawing to try to push myself out of my photoshop comfort zone.

It’s done with ebony pencils and colored pencils from some photos of Lori. Since Lori likes (or is forced to receive, I’m never sure) lots of unicorn and rainbow tchotchkes I could not resist the opportunity to use every color in the box. It made me think of “let the sun shine in” from the movie Hair.

Anyway, I think this drawing would pop a lot more with some photoshop action, but not necessarily the photoshop action I usually do which is to scan a pencil drawing and put color behind it.  I’m thinking that I should try putting some patterns or texture on some parts, and amping up the colors. Probably I could get it neater too but the main goal is to give it a more swirly psychedelic look without taking out the hand drawn lines. I should go look at some Fillmore Posters for inspiration.
